Thanks, Elizabeth, Margie, Fleur, & Rj.
We planted several 1 gal
leucospermum sp ~15 yrs ago,
and the 4 'Veldfires' are the only ones that not only survived, but
thrived, in spite of what I thought were poor conditions.
Turns out they were in just the right spot.
~10 yrs ago I made about 60 cuttings, using root tone, and
1:1 peat moss & perlite. I thought none of them made it, but
my DW, Ginger, saw possible roots on one, and I potted it up.
It took, and after later putting it in the ground, took off,
and is now 8 ft tall.
I trim them after they bloom, and take the cuttings to a grower friend of mine,
who has the "Midas Touch", and is very successful propagating them.
In return he gives me more plants, e.g. grevilleas, which also do very well
in our soil. Win-win.
BTW, here is a 1 minute video of the bees on the 'Veldfires' .....

Next time I'll be sure to put the camera on a tripod.
