Astonishing, Elizabeth!
I've grown several azaleas...white, pinks, reds, lavender...
but have never seen gold. Very pretty!
It really lives up to it's name.
Good article on differences between azaleas & rhododendrons,
highlights Klondyke.

I haven't had success with Rhododendrons here, but have
had some beautiful azaleas, even in hanging baskets.
I found they did best in large shallow terracotta pots,
in soil amended with peat moss, where the roots grew
through the drainage hole into the subsoil,
even though it had a layer of pea gravel,
and the soil was packed & un-amended with a lot of clay.
Not ideal conditions, but worked surprisingly well.
Sorry to say, I haven't grown them in almost 20 yrs.
But you have inspired me to add a few to our shade garden.
Better late than never!
