A Mouthful of Sunshine

An insect, presumably one of the more than 6400 species of katydid, munching on the pollen of a daylily. I could see pollen grains all around its mouth.

The katydid got a mouthful, and we got an eyeful! What great detail in the life of the daylily and her nemesis. Beautifully cropped. Love it! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

I made an alternate banner of the same subject, and it was a toss up which of the banners to submit. You can judge for yourself. I've included the source images below, too.

This little eye catcher was probably too small to do much damage on its own, and I didn't see any others of its kind, so I just smiled at it.

Here are the alternate banner, and two crops of the source images, which show the insect in better detail

WOW - and double WOW!!! I love this second version in the expanded edition. What an incredible close up of the pollen on the mouth - and feet. What amazing closeups. Hurray!

Thank you for this insight into Katydids. And how clear your photos are! I had taken this photo and wasn't sure who it was - and now I know - - - one of the 6,400 species of Katydids!

Ha, ha! The katydid in the 2nd banner looks like he's been caught red-handed stuffing his face! Both are great pictures!

Many thanks for the warm response to this banner. Whenever I photograph flowers, I hope I'll see some interesting arthropod life (insects, spiders, etc.), and seeing colorful critters doing interesting things is a big plus in my book, so I was happy to be able to share this one.
Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!
