Each bloodroot bloom lasts a scant day at its prime, before petals start for fall, but this has been my favorite woodland spring wildflower from the moment I first saw one.

I remember finding these in the woods when I was a kid, picking them and getting the red sap all over my hands. We used to paint our faces with it like we were wild Indians in war paint.
Politicians are like diapers, they need to be changed often, and for the same reason.
