For the curious, here's the same plant a year and a half ago, before it developed the striking spiral formation on its caudex

and here's a young seedling grown from that plant, currently in a 4 inch pot, showing the vestigial leaves.

What wonderful photos Baja! That is a really cool looking Euphorbia and without your captioned photos I never would have known they were the same plant!
