The Cotoneaster 'Hybridus Pendula casts shade as does a Crab Apple in the opposite border. The sun penetrates for about 2 hours a day. (garden is South facing and this is the west border)
Tolmeia adds brightness and is below Smilicina which arches over with white fluffy flowers in Spring. A few hardy Geraniums add more colour early summer and in late Winter/Spring the border is filled with snowdrops, dwarf narcissus, sweet violets and forget-me-nots.
There is also an arch which is covered with evergreen clematis and Rose 'Crown Princess Marguerita' , Rose 'Mermaid 'scrambles acroos the top of the fence.
