Mildred lived in a condominium. The developer had paid a lot of attention to detailing the interior... and left the exterior up to the homeowner. Mildred did have a spacious brick patio... but her view consisted of the neighbor's home, a brick wall and a 13x13 foot patch of bare ground. Mildred was an accomplished interior decorator and she wanted a garden space that complimented the European look she had achieved inside her home. What she really wanted was a "view" from her living room… through two floor to ceiling glass doors… and across her patio.
The bronze cranes became the focal point of the space… each one discharging a steady stream of water into a sunken bowl at their feet. Needle and broadleaf evergreens were emphasized for year-round foliage color. Seasonal flower color was provided by Geraniums, Petunias, Pansies and New Guinea Hybrid Impatiens. The stone and brick walkway was primarily decorative… it was not meant for much foot traffic. The crane fountain was illuminated at night by spotlights… with the rest of the garden disappearing in shadows.
