A member has pointed out that the Cotula coronopifolia entry contains three images and two plant combination photos showing Centaurea cyanus.

In addition to the one above, there are images posted by @vic and @DogsNDaylilies and landscape photos contributed by @woofie and @Oberon46.

This is clearly a case of common name confusion, so I'm tempted to remove Bachelor's Buttons as the common name for Cotula coronopifolia. Look how many people it has already confused.

good idea--not sure why bachelor's buttons is even listed as a common name for it anyway...
maybe add 'buttonweed' instead and some data details and hopefully a photo of the real thing will come along soon

all those photos need to be moved
I don't know if you can edit the plant combo photos though?

Yes, I can edit them, DD. I just want to make sure all of the photo owners have seen this thread before I move the photos, edit the combos, and delete the misleading common name.

So, is this the correct name: Centaurea cyanus? Or is it something different?

Yes, Woofie. Centaurea cyanus is the correct name.

Bachelor's Buttons (Centaurea cyanus)

Cotula coronopifolia looks quite different. We don't have any photos of it in our database, but it looks a lot like Cotula lineariloba.

One of the problems of this kind of misidentification is that it can provide misleading information. Cotula is a perennial plant, for example, whereas Centaurea cyanus is an annual.

Do you want to fix this yourself, or should I go in and change the tags on my photo?

Ok. I'll give it a try and if I run into trouble, I'll let you know. Smiling

I think this thread has been up long enough to let the photo owners know about the misidentification, so I'm moving all of the remaining photos to the Centaurea cyanus entry and removing the misleading common name from this entry.
