Are the flowers in the background from the same tree as the one in the middle? Because the focus of the picture looks like Cornus florida var. urbiniana.

I just looked at images of urbiniana and while it resembles it, the blooms normally look more like your image. The ones in the background are from the same tree so that one in front was an oddity.
This was already planted here when we moved in over 8 years ago, it had a metal tag attached to the tree with 'Cherokee Princess' on it. I'll try to get better images some day to replace this one.

I don't think you should replace it. Your picture shows what this tree is capable of.
