well I don't think the runners are a big deal as I understand here in MO they freeze/die come winter anyway. But I was taken back by the seedless claim It is pretty, I love them, but the seeds are crazy. I would love it if there was a seedless one.
Frillylily did you get the seedless one from Hilltop Farm? I can vouch for it not coming back and am so glad you asked! I'm headed to check out davesgarden.com to see about it since Hilltop retired this year and I won't have my beautiful morning glories next year!
No, I never did get it, was too chicken! I went out there about 3 wks ago but didn't buy anything. Walked through the hosta garden out back. I will miss that!
Some one may have discovered a seedless but I have the blue dawnflower you linked to and it is a weed that comes up all over my garden ? I can only guess from seed.
I've seen it for sale on EBay labeled as Blue Dawn. I didn't buy it just because it was fairly expensive for what would be an annual plant in my zone. But I'm obsessed with the color of the dawn flower!
It is now ipomoea acuminata. It is illegal to sell in some states. I had to bring one back from California. There are no seeds, it propagates by runners. I keep mine in a huge pot with small drainage holes and several layers of hardware cloth on the bottom to prevent roots from exiting the pot into the soil underneath. It is also much easier to kill if it gets out of control. You can just cut the canes at the pot soil line and dig the roots out of the pot. Love, love, love it. Excessive rain just killed mine last month. Oh darn. Guess I'll need to drive over to San Diego!
