Yaaayyyyy they opened up!

One plant appeared to have split petal too in addition to the tube petaloids.

Joseph, that's some really nice doubles ! I forgot the Japanese term, for some description, but read an old article, from about 1920 or so, that listed some early descriptions with depictions & photos ( b & w) but you'd get the idea, on some...Not sure, if was what they called, as "water fountain" or not, when translated...& we may just call doubles.
(Then when normal flowered ones appear, can make some seeds?)

"Someone" has conveniently "borrowed" my Scripto marker pen. Now I won't know which is Scarlett 'O'Hara & some other one, with odd flower '(Sunrise Serenade'?) & they'd better kindly return it, before I have to search through where they keep their pens ! & it had better show up, before that 'Ukigumo' packet arrives from Onalee's, so I can not only mark the baggy, but write on the pots & labels, too , for potting up & when planting out, too ! lol
( While the seed collecting will be a whole different story, when the time comes, for that.)

I hope so and also hope they bloom earlier than the Apricot Candy did last summer.

I like the translation Water Fountain. It accurately describes the flower form.

Joseph, if you can't locate your 'Ukigumo' seeds, I can probably spare a few, if you'd like to plant that one this year. I'm sorry now, that I didn't also go ahead & buy 'Matsukaze', while I was at it ! Haven't seen hummingbird yet, this year. Just that derned bunny rabbit & all it took, was for me to go to the store & back & noticed it had finished eating some, almost completely bare ! Glare

I appreciate the offer but I think I have too many started as it is. Maybe another group member might take you up on the offer.

@ShawnSteve, if you mix a good amount of cayenne pepper in water and sprinkle the leaves of your plants with it, that should keep the rabbits off. You have to repeat it every week or so, or after each rain, but I've done it a lot when my plants are small. One year I had several young cosmos plants and one by one they were disappearing. I watered them with that and only lost one more plant. It was left still lying there...apparently the rabbit took one bite, dropped it and fled! Hilarious!

I just may have to resort to that. I can't chase it away, enough. I had hoped a red tailed hawk might see it & save me the trouble ! But there's plenty of that hot stuff, in this kitchen spice rack. Not sure it was a really special morning glory, but hadn''t seen the flower yet, to say.
But, I jumped a bit like a rabbit, myself, going from ordering JMG seeds to try & get roses on sale & if they grow tall enough, may create an issue for any bunny, trying to eat leaves, between the rose thorns !

I've had to steep some tobacco, & drench the area, to try & keep that rabbit away. Not so sure another thunderstorm will come along, (again) & just wash away the ground up red pepper ! It isn't that I truly dislike bunny rabbits, but it can just go dine elsewhere & not in this garden... I really wouldn't care if it ate the entire lawn, but it seems so determined, to eating & tasting many of my seedlings, I suppose to find out, what tastes best...
I'll have to keep the 'Ukigumo', that I just ordered, above ground level,, just so those can't be eaten, especially just after germinating. I'm not "into" feeding a wild rabbit, with rather expensive "bunny food" Sticking tongue out

Joseph, you ought to try Chiltern Seeds, or Plant World Seeds, for unique morning glory varieties, or species !

I'm almost finished with buying for this month, myself ! It's time for some digging & hope the rabbit stays away & some weeding for upkeep & sure hope it doesn't rain too much, as that can make it so humid, I won't want to be outside !
