Me too karen.. but not because they are creepy. He has a penchant for using little kids as the objects of evil ...I am not suggesting he is perverted..I get it that the scare factor can be ramped up when its a little kid about to get sucked into the throes of hell or flattened by a truck... but it began to bother me.

The only one that I thought was tough to read was Pet Sematary. Really can not remember other then when Gage comes back and the one of the kids from IT as any being used as evil. Almost all are about kids fighting evil.

The Shining..kid terrorized and terrorized .
IT kids terrorized over and over
Tommyknockers kids terrorized
Carrie Kids terrorized by a kid
PET Cemetery - ugh
The Institute. Many kids ..many dead.. all terrorized
Cycle of the Werewolf 10:year old attacked by werewolf and it only gets worse from there
The girl who loved Tom Gordon ..lost kid ..(woods) alone to deal with only Stephen Kings unique brand of specialty horrors
The Talisman .another kid in for it
That's all I can think of off the top of my head..I am surprised d I got this many 😊

Maybe it's just me... King likes to terrorize kids .,Yes some are the novels protagonists.. ( many actually ) but that puts them in the position of the target for all his horrors

Kids are easy picking

After seeing books y'all are reading, I opened The Giver by Lois Lowry.
One review said they live in futuristic society where they are taught to conform. Yet when the members turn 12, they are assigned their life jobs, tasks to help the Community, which begins to separate people. I'm just in the middle of the book where the main character has been given his special, distinguished assignment. He has no idea how this special job will impact the rest of his life. The book is a Newberry Award winner.
In 2014, it was movie starring Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep. After reading msg about books y'all read, I opened the cover on The Giver by Lois Lowry for interesting story!

It sounds very much like WOOL.. post apocalyptic the entire human civilization lives in huge silos β€”-each performing a "duty" to keep it all running ...but what exactly is outside those Silos?? If anything?

My very favorite tale as I am sure I have mentioned is Frank Herbert's Dune..
And the subsequent books.. altho none was like the first.. it is a perfect commentary about the times we live in right now! And a good fictional read! He was a genius.

Another book that I check on at least once a year is the French author Rene
Barjavel... The Ice People ..Still no electronic version... ... he wrote others not translated ...mores the pity. I read once that there was to be a movie but so far I have seen nothing

I notice The Art of Racing in the Rain is now a movie. great novel
I am reading Girl on a Cliff

Kids terrorized I agree, I was referring to being used as objects of evil. How were you able to read The Institute , I thought it did not come out till Sept.? I always thought a lot of his books were about strong women .

My brother is a S.King fan.. I was looking for a tale called Sundog ( I think that too is about a kid as protagonist -- I had forgtton that one) and I heard he wrote novel with his son searching for those is when I read about The Institute. It can be preordered and delivered on his birthday.
I love Amazon..can download samples and read a good bit.. enough to tell if the story is well written and interesting.

No, I meant Kids targets of evil altho some in the books are evil too 😊

I do like a good ghost story

I misread your post too Rosie...yes when you put it that way about kids being terrorized it is odd but I still love me some Stephen King

Yes! I loved it.
That was a long time ago.. I am so old 😳😳
I also ( since we are speaking of horror ) really enjoyed Ann Rice books.
She also wrote a fiction about Jesus' early life that was interesting in the sense it incorporated the times in great detail

I am not sure this link will work .. but here goes
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/0...

How Harry Potter didnt make it, I will never know
Maybe it was a time thing ..( to make it on this list ) . Time flies by so fast..I keep thinking 1980 was about 20 years ago. But I am thinking of A Prayer for Owen Meany.. Pillars of the Earth.. The DaVinci Code, Edgar Sawtelle

There are just so many that I wish I had not read JUST SO i could have the pleasure of reading again with new eyes ...of course there are many more I read that were a complete waste of time

I find doing a re-read is well worth it. First time I think you are really enjoying a book and read to quickly missing some details. On the re-read I am really taking my time and enjoying them, plus after so much time many things I just forgot about.

I never re-read a book. There are so many out there I just have to read... Shrug!

I'm still slogging my way through The Lake House by Kate Morton. It's a good story, but so slow moving. I keep falling asleep. It's due back at the library so I really have to get moving through it.
