I have a dried up Christmas tree that has been sitting outside (yes, I know...) and I want to cut it up into small pieces to dispose of it, so I imagine I need a saw. I don't own one though and there are so many kinds. If I buy a saw it would be nice to get one that can not only accomplish this task but be useful in multiple instances for someone who is not regularly engaged in many projects like this (I live in an apartment building) but wants something ready for when sawing needs to be done. Any recommendations? The tree isn't very big, about 5 feet tall.

The tree is probably dry enough that is could be snapped into pieces.

I am in love with my silky pocket boy. I never realized how easily some things could be cut. I tend to go wild and prune everything when I have it out. It is miles ahead of standard metal saws, and smaller too. One of my favorite garden purchases after the hori hori.
It does tend to do better on green wood than dry, but I think that may be true for all saws?

Someone who lives in an apartment building probably won't have a lot of use for a pruning saw. But, there are a lot of saws for a lot of purposes: pruning saw, tool box wood saw, metal saw.... That's why I didn't make a suggestion. When my children lived in an apartment, they had a tiny electric Sawzall. It cut anything.

True. A sawsall would be another good direction if he does more handy work than pruning work. I did not know they came in tiny sizes. The one we have would not be appropriate for apartment living!

*shrug* he asked for saw recommendations, I recommended a good saw. I have not been impressed with the performance of other handsaws I've used, and if for some reason I needed to make it through a 2x4 without power tools one day, I would absolutely pull out my pruning saw before I pulled out a standard handsaw. The blade is soooo good.
