[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Fairy Tale Pink') | Posted on July 17, 2015 ]

I have always considered Fairy Tale Pink to be the perfect daylily. My favorite daylily color is pink, and this one doesn't disappoint with the color! I really love everything about it. It has bloomed very well for me in zone 5a, where I had it in partial shade, and in zone 7a, where it is in full sun. Nothing seems to bother it, and I always smile when I see it! It's perfect!

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'American Freedom') | Posted on July 17, 2015 ]

This daylily has performed very well for me, and is always stunning! I originally grew it in zone 5a, where it did fantastic. I moved it to zone 7a, and it has done just as well. It always seems to have beautiful blooms, no matter what. The color holds up extremely well in the heat, too, which is a big plus! It looks as good at the end of a 110 degree day as it did at the beginning of the day. I really love it, and the color is amazing!

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Thin Man') | Posted on July 17, 2015 ]

The bloom on Thin Man knocks my socks off! I have it planted somewhat close to my garden gate, and when I walk in there and see the bloom, I get stuck for a while! It demands to be drooled over! The bloom is huge, and the color is amazing! This is my first year having blooms, and every one of them has been stunning.

If you like large blooms, this is a great daylily to get. I haven't been a big fan of red flowers in the past, but this one got me to think differently about the color, and I now love red! It really is amazing!

[ Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum 'Isis Candy') | Posted on July 4, 2015 ]

I grew this tomato from seed this year, having never heard of it until I saw the seeds for sale at Baker Creek, and it is now my favorite tomato! It really is so sweet that it does taste like candy! It was one of the first in the garden to ripen, and I will always grow this one from now on. It is really delicious! No cracking, either! And, I really love the orange color. It makes a salad look really pretty, as long as they can make it into the house to put in a salad. I enjoy eating them right as I pick them.

[ Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum 'Black Vernissage') | Posted on July 4, 2015 ]

I grew this tomato for the first time this year after receiving the seeds as a bonus from Baker Creek. I won't be growing it again as it is very bland! It did grow very well from seed, though, and the plant is covered in tomatoes. It is very interesting looking, though!

[ Love-Lies-Bleeding (Amaranthus caudatus 'Dreadlocks') | Posted on September 7, 2014 ]

I grew this plant for the first time this year, and I plan on always growing it from now on. I absolutely love it! The vibrant magenta blooms stop me in my tracks! It was very easy to grow from seed, and it is a very fast grower. I planted several, and I can see that the plants that got more water than the others didn't seem to get as tall, but the flowers grew longer. Dreadlocks is a very appropriate name!

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Longfields Twins') | Posted on September 7, 2014 ]

I've had this daylily for about 5 years now. I originally had it planted in my zone 5a garden in Utah, and I wasn't all that happy with it. Part of the problem could have been that it was in partial shade, but the scape always flopped over. I did like the bloom, though, so I brought it with me when I moved to zone 7a, and it is now in full sun, with no shade at all.

I have been amazed at the difference since it was moved! The scapes are now double the thickness that they were before, and they stand straight up without ever flopping over. The wind never really stops blowing here, and I've been impressed at how well the scapes have stood up to the wind!

Apparently, the partial shade just wasn't working for this daylily, and I'm very glad now that I brought it with me when I moved. I was willing to give it one more year, and now it is a keeper.

[ Moss Rose (Portulaca grandiflora 'Sundial Mix') | Posted on September 7, 2014 ]

I really love this plant, especially for areas that are very hot and dry, with poor soil. It is very easy to grow from seed, which is a bonus for me. It also reseeds nicely, which is good if you have it planted in a hard-to-reach area, as I do. The only problem I've had with it so far is that the deer seem to think it is delicious. I've planted seeds three times this year, and luckily it got to blooming size each time before the deer did away with it. I hope some seeds dropped before they ate it! If not, I'll try again next year. Luckily, it's a fast grower and it seems to thrive on neglect.

[ Bee Balm (Monarda didyma 'Raspberry Wine') | Posted on September 7, 2014 ]

The hummingbirds have gone crazy over this plant, and so have I! It is really gorgeous and has grown really well for me. I had it in my zone 5a garden, moved it with me to a warmer 7a, and it has done really well in both zones. I haven't had any problems with it reseeding, but I would't mind if it did. I had it in full sun in my previous garden and it is in partial shade now, but the shade hasn't bothered it at all.

It also has a very nice fragrance. I can't smell it from a distance due to the wind that never seems to stop here, but up close it is strong, but not overpowering. I can't imagine not having this plant in my yard! I also love it for the color. It is very vibrant and doesn't fade at all.

[ Coneflower (Echinacea 'Hot Summer') | Posted on June 3, 2014 ]

It's exciting to see how the color changes on the blooms daily! One of my very favorite plants!

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Catherine Woodbery') | Posted on June 3, 2014 ]

I really love this daylily! It grew very well for me in my zone 5a garden, and multiplied nicely. It is also very pod and pollen fertile. It is one of those daylilies that never let me down!

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Wild Horses') | Posted on April 9, 2014 ]

I absolutely love the bloom on this daylily, but it has not multiplied or bloomed well for me. It was planted originally at my last house (zone 5a), about 4 or 5 years ago, and never multiplied. It was in bloom when I bought it, and it didn't bloom again until the year before last. I moved it to my new home last year (zone 7b). I was thrilled to see three new fans the other day! I'm very hopeful that it will bloom well in my warmer zone! At least it has multiplied, which is an improvement. I will always keep this one, because it is worth it when it blooms. I just suspect that it does much better in warmer climates than it does in colder climates.

I needed to update this since my last post. Wild Horses is much happier in my warmer zone! I now have at least 10 fans, which is a huge improvement over the original 2 that I had for 4 or 5 years, and it has two scapes on it! The only thing that has changed for the plant is its location. Otherwise, I haven't done anything different as far as fertilizing. It's still in full sun, like it was before, and it looks great! Can't wait to see it bloom!

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Blue Beetle') | Posted on March 26, 2014 ]

My very favorite daylily ever, and the one that got me hooked on hybridizing. Until recently I didn't have it, but a very generous friend here sent me a fan!

[ Bishop's Weed (Aegopodium podagraria 'Variegatum') | Posted on September 25, 2013 ]

I had this plant growing at my last house, and it was beautiful. It was grown in very large pots that were buried in the ground, to keep it contained, and it grew very well. Another neighbor had it, and it spread badly for him, but he said it was easy to dig up when it got out of control. I loved having it growing in large pots, where I didn't have to worry about it spreading. Every couple of years, I would thin the pots out a little in the spring, when the plant first started growing, and it would fill in right away. It went very well with my hostas that were planted in the same area.
