lauribob's Plant List: Water

A note from lauribob
I am not interested in selling or trading live plants. I do save seeds once in awhile and would be willing to trade those.

FS-PS, 18-30". These are only hardy to 30°
2024: I picked up 3 of these at Ace Hardware after they suffered some frost damage. They cut them way back and sold for half price. They look like they'll probably survive. I will pot them up, fertilize them, and see how they do in the greenhouse. None of the papyrus I planted from seed has shown up yet. I got a late start this year again.
2022: Put one in each barrel. These were really outstanding this year! Starting with 4" pots, they were a 2-3' high graceful focal point in all 3 barrels this year. I am attempting to overwinter in the pump-house, after cutting them way back so they'd fit on the shelf. We'll see; it's worth a try anyway.

FS-PS, wet, 18-24", 1-3" deep. Also sold as c. isocladus. These are perfect for the barrels when I can find them.
2010: I found these again! Love them in the barrels.
2009: Tess was selling some water plants this year and had these. They were great in the barrels.

FS-PS, wet, 12-18". Tag says crown should not be submerged but I've grown these with the pots all the way under and they're good for a summer.
2019: Nice little papyrus, did well.

I throw these in the barrels every year. I like to have some floaters in there.
2022: This year I only got 3 plants for more $ than I used to get 5 for! They aren't the greatest looking things either, but I'm sure they'll perk up once they're outside. The weather sucks this spring and they didn't get moved out until June.

Z8-9, drought tolerant - standing water, FS-PS, 36-60" in the tropics maybe, sum-fall

2023: I got 8 really nice ones from seed. I put all of these in the water barrels. The did surprisingly well! Added a nice pop to the water barrels.
2022: Only got 1 plant going from seed. I decided to try it in a barrel. So far, it's not gotten very big, but it's thriving. It actually did really well in the single barrel on the south side. I'm not sure how they will do on the other end with part shade. I'll try it next year.
2021: Got 8 nice starts from seed. Planted all of these in the Z5 along with a bunch of amaranths. They're really nice!

2017: Tried these again, and they did well, but didn't bloom as nicely. I don't even try to overwinter these when we travel in the winter.
2015: Planted in the water barrels. They were really nice, and bloomed for me. I was unable to overwinter them.

I'm using this entry for my generic Louisiana Irises. There are 5 different types that apparently interbreed freely, so who knows what you actually get.

I have grown this in water and also in pots. It's a tough guy and has overwintered in clumps of other water plants.
2021: Tried from seed with minimal success. Bought several in 4" pots from FM. They're in the water barrels, looking good.

'Twisted Arrows'
I liked these. I think I tried to start them from seed one time, with no success. I do wish there was more variety in plants that will grow in water to be had locally.

Started seeds in Feb. now 10" & starting to form spirals

Water:
2024 - 3 for the barrels
2023 - 3 in the barrels. October 24 and snow is coming, followed by lows in the teens this week. WTF?! I took these out of the barrels and put one in the GH triangle, one next to the garage, and one under the kitchen window. We'll see...
2020 - Had these in the barrels again.
2018 - Found these in 4" pots at Ace hardware. Yay! The barrels were not very full this year due to lack of available water plants to be found.

2022: 1 in each barrel. These can be put in the ground anywhere, as they are actually drought tolerant! They prefer full sun. These were outstanding in the barrels this year.
Early November: Long Indian Summer this year! I stuck them in the greenhouse until I had time to plant them in the ground. They seem to be doing well. One in the Z5 annual area, one at the willow end of the corner, one in the KK grinder side, by the path.
2021: Several of these in 4" pots from FM. I planted in the barrels. I can try to move these to the garden to overwinter as they are hardy to Z5. (can't remember if I did that or not...)

I got a sack of this in the mail and it did a decent job of covering the surface of the water. Not the fanciest look, but better than scum.
