antsinmypants's Plant List: Full Sun

A note from antsinmypants
Feel free to ask about anything in my list you may be interested in. I'm always looking to trade. Just because something isn't in my want list doesn't necessarily mean I don't want it & just because something I have isn't marked for trade doesn't mean it isn't available for trade. I stay busy so don't always get around to updating.

Tomatoes Galore Swap 2024 - TomatoNut95 - Unopened packet from Baker Creek. Packed for 2023. Has been in freezer storage.

This short and stout, refined and reliable celery hails from France. We love this variety for its relative ease of growing and nutritious green stalks with gourmet flavor. It performed very well in our trials and our taste tests. These upright, tidy plants average 18 inches tall and have crisp, sweet flavor. Growing gorgeous celery can be easy when you choose an easier-to-grow variety like this and provide rich soil, even moisture and relatively mild weather.

DND's All Seeds Swap #9 (2022) - Jlee160 - 2021

This unusual selection features lacy blue-green foliage that forms a low mound, with taller stems bearing tiny double flowers. The blooms are soft-pink and absolutely packed with layers of petals like flowers set inside of flowers. A British introduction was first unveiled at the Chelsea Flower Show in 1999. Since Columbines are relatively short-lived, allow some of the plants to go to seed and self-sow. Leaf miners or sawflies may disfigure leaves around flowering time. Simply trim off the ugly foliage to rejuvenate.

USDA zones: 3-8.

In Garden One 2021-2024.

Prior to dividing horseradish plants in the fall, prepare the planting site by weeding and raking out any large pieces of detritus. Amend the soil with 4 inches (10 cm.) of compost and coarse sand and dig it into a depth of one foot (31 cm.). Loosen the soil around the plants, about 3 inches (8 cm.) out from the crown and down 10 inches (25 cm.) into the soil. Lift the plants carefully from the ground with a fork or shovel. Brush off the large clumps of soil from the roots and then wash them with a garden hose to remove the remaining dirt. Let them dry in a shaded area. Wash a sharp gardening knife with hot soap and water, then sanitize with rubbing alcohol to remove any pathogens that might infect the roots prior to cutting into them. Dry the knife with a paper towel. Propagation of horseradish is done with either root or crown cuttings. Regions with short growing seasons should use the crown method. To create crown cuttings, slice the plant into equal portions with an even share of foliage and roots. For root cuttings, slice the slender side roots into 6 to 8 inch (15-20 cm.) long sections, each with a diameter of around ΒΌ inch (6 mm.). In your prepared planting site, dig a hole that is deep enough to accommodate the root of the cutting. Plant the new horseradish plants 2 feet (61 cm.) apart in rows that are 30 inches (76 cm.) apart. Backfill around the plants until the root is covered. If using crown cuttings, fill in until the base of the stems are even with the rest of the bed. Water the cuttings in well, down to a 4 inch (10 cm.) depth. Lay 3 inches (8 cm.) of mulch down between the cuttings, leaving an inch (2.5 cm.) between the mulch layer and the plants to help retain moisture. If you lack rain during the winter months, water each week down to a depth of an inch (2.5 cm.). Allow the soil to dry completely between watering.

Zones 4-8.

MIG - 2023 - 4 Plants

1-year-old crowns 2023.

Beautiful purple plants that turn green when cooked. Tender if eaten fresh or cooked. The plants are cold hardy to zone 3 to zone 9. These crowns are mature and ready to grow the moment you plant them.

Wondering how much to grow? Established asparagus plants produce about 1/2lb. of spears per bed foot in spring/early summer. If you are getting asparagus established for the first time, we recommend 5-10 crowns per person. (covers 15-30 row feet)

As soon as you get these plants, they must be planted. fertilize with a well-balanced fertilizer and water well. Bury the entire crown so that the tip of the crown is around 2 inches below the soil level. This will protect the crown from any cold weather. Do not harvest the first year. Let plants become established before harvesting.

Zones 2-9.
