antsinmypants's Plant List: Biennials

A note from antsinmypants
Feel free to ask about anything in my list you may be interested in. I'm always looking to trade. Just because something isn't in my want list doesn't necessarily mean I don't want it & just because something I have isn't marked for trade doesn't mean it isn't available for trade. I stay busy so don't always get around to updating.

A good choice for a more compact collard green. Leaves have a mild, cabbage like flavor and are popularly boiled. Shows more uniform and smaller growth than other varieties making this ideal for somewhat smaller spaces.

Note to purchase from twf in the future.

Mizuna grows best in cool weather. Sow seed or set out transplants in mid- to late-spring for harvest before the weather turns hot in summer. Sow seed every three weeks for a succession of harvests; mizuna grows from seed to maturity in 40 days. Plant mizuna again near the end of summer for harvest in the cool weather of autumn and early winter. Mizuna can tolerate frost near maturity. Grow mizuna through winter in a plastic tunnel or cold frame.

An Incredible Variety from China! We love this eye-catching purple baby bok choy, and we believe this is one of the best strains available. Its sweet, rich flavor is perfect for the wok, grill, or in salads. We love the highly refined, uniform heads, averaging 6-7 inches tall. The neat little plants make a perfect presentation tucked into the tidy kitchen garden or displayed at the farmer's market stand. The antioxidant-rich, plum-colored leaves of this beautiful variety really pop against the lime-green stems. Crunchy, juicy, and flavorful, this is an excellent culinary variety. Much work has been put into selecting for consistently attractive, delicious heads. A must-have for market and home use.

Planting Raab for Overwintering

In cold winter regions, you can sow seeds two to three weeks before the first fall frost. When seedlings germinate, cover them with straw mulch. The plants will survive the winter and be ready for a very early spring harvest. Overwintered crops should be planted only in well-drained soil.
Fall planted raab for spring harvest should be covered with mulch to protect them in cold winter regions. Harvest fall planted raab before the weather warms in spring; warm temperatures will cause plants to bolt and send up slender flower stems.
Spring Planting Raab

Start seed outdoors as soon as the soil can be worked in spring.
Set transplants in the garden as early as 5 weeks before the last expected spring frost and not much later than 2 weeks after the last spring frost. Keep in mind, warming temperatures will cause raab to bolt and send up slender flower stems.
Succession Planting

For a continuous harvest, space planting about 2 weeks apart.
When stems are cut, the plant will produce more useable side stems.

Plant from early spring to late summer. Transplant out when seedlings are 7 cm (3″) high. Set plants 2.5 cm (1″) deeper than they were grown inside the pots. Plant out with your spring planting in early April.

Start a few seeds about every 5 days.
