Ruellia "Purple Showers" is a tall, free-blooming variety which conveniently sets no seed whatsoever and is therefore not at risk of unfortunate spreading in any area below zone 8b. It isn't winter hardy in NC on northward, and I only keep mine alive by digging it up annually. On the other hand, it takes an amazing amount of weather abuse otherwise, from drought to flood, and can thrive in everything from clay to sand. | |
