Fig 'Emerald Strawberry' (Ficus (UCR 143-36) )
Icon for preview
Have
Emerald Strawberry (UCR 143-36) produces 2 crops of Large to Extra Large, high quality green figs. Heavy mid summer main crop. The soft skin is easy to bite into and bruises easily. Pulp is light strawberry to light red colored. Need to let it hang a day or two after the fig droops. Becomes a very heavy fig. If conditions are right it can go from juicy with lighter colored flesh to dense with a light amber colored flesh. Both are very good. Pleasing texture with a light seed crunch. Nice fig flavor with honey/berry undertones. Very, very sweet. Small eye. Rain and insect tolerant. Resists splitting. Unique leaf pattern. Great variety for potted culture. Also great in-ground and reportedly does well in Zone 6 with no protection. No pollination required.

UC Davis reports Emerald Strawberry as a cross of Adriatic x 72-80 [Verdal Longue x (Calimyrna x Kearney)]. Our mature Emerald Strawberry is very hardy and performs equally well in good and poor weather. Very productive; reliably puts on loads of figs. Produces round breba in the 60g range and pyriform main crop in the 40g range. Both crops have a nice fig flavor with soft honey/berry undertones. Emerald Strawberry is often reported as a top tasting variety is some orchards. One thing that's common among most growers is the sweetness of the variety. Emerald Strawberry is very, very sweet.Emerald Strawberry is a medium sized green fig known to be cold hardy. It has a light strawberry colored interior and produces both a main crop and a breba crop (semi-elongated). The main crop ripens mid-season and is a heavy crop. It is a very sweet fig with honey and berry undertones. It is semi tolerant of rain and resists splitting.
