I thought it would be nice to start a thread of our favourite garden/gardening quotes. What are some of yours?

Here is one of mine. Smiling

Life begins the day you start a garden.

Fate gives all of us three teachers, three friends, three enemies, and three great loves in our lives. But these twelve are always disguised, and we never know which one is which until we've loved them, left them, or fought them.

To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.

Hurray!

I like gardening. It's a place where I find myself when I need to lose myself.

A long, long time favourite poem of mine.....

God's Garden

THE Lord God planted a garden
In the first white days of the world,
And He set there an angel warden
In a garment of light enfurled.

So near to the peace of Heaven,
That the hawk might nest with the wren,
For there in the cool of the even
God walked with the first of men.

And I dream that these garden-closes
With their shade and their sun-flecked sod
And their lilies and bowers of roses,
Were laid by the hand of God.

The kiss of the sun for pardon,
The song of the birds for mirth,--
One is nearer God's heart in a garden
Than anywhere else on earth.

For He broke it for us in a garden
Under the olive-trees
Where the angel of strength was the warden
And the soul of the world found ease.

~Dorothy Frances Gurney

We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses. -Abraham Lincoln

On Saturday afternoons when all the things are done in the house and there's no real work to be done, I play Bach and Chopin and turn it up real loud and get a good bottle of chardonnay and sit out on my deck and look out at the garden. –Maya Angelou

It is easier to tell a person what life is not, rather than to tell them what it is. A child understands weeds that grow from lack of attention in a garden. However, it is hard to explain the wild flowers that one gardener calls weeds, and another considers beautiful ground cover.

"It always amazes me to look at the little, wrinkled brown seeds and think of the rainbows in 'em," said Captain Jim. "When I ponder on them seeds I don't find it nowise hard to believe that we've got souls that'll live in other worlds. You couldn't hardly believe there was life in them tiny things, some no bigger than grains of dust, let alone colour and scent, if you hadn't seen the miracle, could you?"
