It is time for the fall arrival of roots. We typically take pictures of the roots we receive for the others to see. Aren't we a happy group comparing roots! Who will be first?

More than I should: Moon River, Moonstone, Addie Tischler, Lorelie, New Millenium, and Pastel Lilas. I have a couple more I can't remember at present. The excitement is building.

Addie Tischler, one of the best peonies around! Stunning. Nice list, Gary.

I would love to see a pic of your Moonstone as well as your evaluation of its performance and scent. I hear that it has the most wonderful scent. Lorelei produces such beautiful flower but it has been a slow grower for me. I would also be interested to hear how it does for you. I think maybe mine is not liking its current location.

One of my peony friends in New York has received his orders from Song Sparrow and Swenson's.

So you in the North should be getting orders soon!!

What's the best temperature to plant the roots down?

If your friend already got the roots, then I should be getting mine soon too. The weather has been crazy in NY for September so far. It been 98F for the past few days and going back down to high 70s and low 80s for the next couple of weeks. It seems a bit too warm to plant the roots down, maybe throw them in the fridge until the weather cools down? Confused

As long as the soil is soft and you are able to dig, than planting is good. I also got Amalia Olsen. This year I went for aromatic plants. The rest, time will tell.

My first purchased root is in the mail, I hope to get it tomorrow - from Homestead Farms. This is the first time I order from them, hope it is good and true to name. The rest orders are from Gold City, Adelman's - should arrive by the mid-September, from Mountain Flower Farm - by the end of September (my first time order from them), from Peony Shop - some time in October, those two roots will go to pots and in the cold room. I have no idea when Mary Stella gets peonies from Old House Gardens, she has one root for me, I hope to plant it in the garden before soil freezes.

What did you get from Homestead, Anya? I ordered from them the last 2 years, good product and everything that has bloomed has been true to variety. Great prices as well.

I got a pre-shipment notice from Swenson's last Monday but it's never updated—still doesn't give me an arrival date! Never had this happen before...and Klehms has charged my card so I should get my order in the next couple of weeks....

Liz, I ordered Bo Peep, Dawn Glow, and Kevin from Homestead because of your recommendation.

Nurseries usually ship my roots out in October since I am in zone 7a.

LG and Liz, hope you will both have better weather next spring. It must be heartbreaking to see your buds damaged when you had waited and prepped all year for the show. Just wish Mother Nature will give you both a break next year.

I ordered Honey Gold from Homestead nursery and my friend Do Tell, Jan Van Leeuwen and Charlie's White. The roots are huge, from very established plants. I was about to place an order a year before but had a bad communication and decided to order from another place. The prices are low and the shipping cost also, I don't know how they do it Shrug! Fantastic to a customer Thumbs up So this is the root and I will place photos of other orders once they arrive.
