Here Comes the Night
Won Best in Show with Ghost Train. Dusky Challenger is so reliable and great form and color. Here Comes the Night is more black than purple but it is a late beauty. I love Serena Louisa but has already been pictured.
My favorite is Hollywood Lights.

Yes! I did mean Nights. When I posted my pic of Hollywood Lights, I called it Nights so I am really mixed up on those names.

At any rate, Hollywood Nights (above) is super pretty!

Jane, I have both Hollywoods, too, and always mix them up.

In order to free up planting spaces, I am winnowing out purples that, while nice, I don't like as well as others. That said, these three are keepers:

love these four dark purple irises in my garden.

I saw Adriatic Noble in person this spring and it IS stunning.

I am partial to Purple Serenade (Schreiner 2005).

Is Midnight seas really that color como? The pictures in the database show it as more violet - more reddish tones. Which is right?

I just got Purple Serenade in an order. Glad it is a good one. Fit for Royalty is a very tall mulberry purple but I do not have a picture of mine from this year.

Purple Serenade has been a very strong iris here, so I believe it is a particularly good choice for those of us that sometimes are plagued by bacterial soft rot because of wet weather. Last year was so bad that I had a bed that even the foliage started to rot during the summer and later on, every TB in that bed showed some degree of rhizome rot during the winter, except Purple Serenade. It was completely unharmed. Of course this doesn't mean it is immune to rot, but it certainly impressed me.
