I am working on creating/reinforcing a traditional cottage garden with some innovative touches. I already had landscaping done on part of it—the lawn has been converted to a white gravel area, but I've noticed some weeds and grass peeking through the rocks at certain points, despite the layer of weed cloth that was laid down beneath it. My guess is it was not as thick in some areas as in others, and grass seed was left behind that grew through. I am an organic girl, I don't use chemicals in the garden, mostly I pull weeds but it is getting tedious. Can anyone recommend what to do about the surviving grass seed that peeks through? Shall I buy more rocks and hope it blocks out the light or is there an alternative that could kill the weeds?

Thanks for your time,
Erika

Hi. ErikaBee ! Welcome!

If none of your good plants are near, you could just pour boiling water on anything that sprouts. Grass or tougher weeds might take repeats. But it is natural and chemical free. Real easy if you have an electric teapot.
Just do not do it near your "keepers"

We would love to see pictures of your ongoing cottage garden!

May you be blessed with success and a beautiful garden!

Glyphosate. It's harmless to the soil. Just don't get it on your good plants.

Grass (and weed) seed blows in the wind and is carried by birds, both in their poop and attached to their feathers. Eliminate wind and birds and you will be weed and grass free.

Your kidding, right? This is ridiculous; I'd never get rid of birds, and how the hell do you stop the wind??

Lol.

That is the active ingredient in Roundup. Not interested in chemical treatments. Read above post.
