Last year I bought a red cone flower in a pot. It bloomed beautifully. This year it has bloomed yellow. Why? Can it be the soil in my garden? Or should I fertilize it more. Help. Alda

Are you sure it's the original plant or could it be a seedling of the original?
The new Echinaceas are a result of crossing Echinacea paradoxa (yellow) with Echinacea purpurea, and maybe others. Someone may correct me on this.
I'd love to have a yellow coneflower and am nursing two paradoxa seedlings at the moment.

Are the flowers otherwise normal, as in size/length of petals etc.?
