At least one grey treefrog has come in with my queen's tears, where one or two lived most of the summer. spending days in a little leaf cup.. Can it sit there in that cup all winter? It's a medium light place, going to run about 65 degrees. Fine for the plant, just wondering what the frog will do. Gene..?
Plant it and they will come.

Without an insect food source, I wonder if it can survive through the winter?

If it's the native little green tree Frog usually found on the east coast of the U.S. they were once popular as terrarium pets. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...

You might inquire of a local pet shop to see if they sell insects like crickets, mealworms or earthworms that you could feed it during the winter.

edited to say: Many frogs go into a turpor state during cold months, where their system slows down and they kinda hibernate until the weather warms up again but I'm not sure what a frog would do indoors in the warmth of a home. I'd think, if you can feed it and supply humidity and water (in the bromeliad) it may just survive. Of course, if you have pets in the house and the little froggie isn't confined in an enclosed area.. it may become a snack for your pet ... or you could find it jumping and hopping about different rooms of the house. Smiling I recently brought some plants in from the rain and found 2 little tree frogs that I had to rescue before the dogs found them. Smiling

A co worker has a reptile tank she has frogs in. She gets food at the pet store. I am not sure if they eat flies that are not flying, I just cannot remember. But she really loved watching them, having them for years.

Omg, so cute! I hope it survives in your generous houseplant all winter until he gets back outside!

Confused what?

I'm hoping the frog comes up out of the cup on a fairly mild day and that I actually notice, then take it outside and tuck it into a sheltered place and let it do its natural thing for the rest of winter. I'm reluctant to try and pry it out of there, afraid I will hurt it.
Plant it and they will come.

...it's lovely to see the frogs up close. When keeping frogs (here in Australia you are required to have a reptile and amphibian licence). Within a controlled environment, like a proper terrarium with heat pad under the mulch, a water-bath to sit in, temperature controlled, lighting controlled (even can add a moon-lamp) and watch your frogs come out to play at night. That's generally when they're most active. Feeding? Yes, Woodies (roaches), crickets from pet store. These were Centralian Tree Frogs that lived indoors. They reminded me of little chocolate frogs Smiling

Oh, the tree frog of the link plantladylin gave was a green one with red on its feet. Those are different. Are both species tree frogs? Ours over here are so much different, not so beautiful as your tree frogs, actually we don't have tree frogs, lol.

Sally — after reading the Wiki info from the link that Lin provided, I agree that you should take the tree frog back to the great outdoors. Maybe you could take the bromeliad outside for awhile, maybe even tip it over a little, and see if the little booger hops out.

Carole — love the pictures! So cute.

I seem to recall that tree frogs can be pretty noisy. (I'm sure that there are different types.) Not long after moving to Texas I asked someone what was making such a racket outside. Tree frogs. At first I thought it was a joke, (pre-internet days). A tree frog? Yep. A tree frog.

Sally's is most likely a green or gray tree frog. They are the two most common in this area.

a pic of a female green tree frog I caught in our basement a few years back.

Thumb of 2017-11-28/krobra/d41e73

I kept her as a pet as well as a male and 2nd female I ordered online.
none of them ever made so much as a peep for the year or so I had them.
but a pond by our local park had a very vocal chorus of them chirping after dark when the weather is warm.

I think I have one of the grey tree frogs. It has the yellow under-thighs.

I'm equally tempted by two thoughts- make a terrarium in my critter keeper, or- This week staying just above freezing at nights, put the plant outside, and hope it feels the urge to find a place to shelter, other than the queens tears.
Plant it and they will come.

@plantladylin, I am really old, or this booboo is making me feel old anyway.
Gene had a post, and it vanished. I realized too late I was just causing confusion. I am so sorry.

@lauriebasler, thank you for explaining ... I guess I must have missed Gene's post; I don't know why it disappeared; usually when someone posts and then goes back and erases it, the username is still there with a blank message box. Since there was no sign of that blank message box, I was really confused but I have to admit, it doesn't take much to confuse me. Rolling on the floor laughing

IN general I am not at all afraid of frogs, but this one is freaking me out because I just cannot find it among the leaves!! It "chatters" twice a day and has been on this succulent now for nearly 4 months. The pot was on the deck; now inside. 'tis a large plant with grayish somewhat fuzzy leaves. I and two others have gone all over the plant even with flashlights and just can't find the little bugger...so now I am feeling squeamish about coming upon sticky little him/her accidently.! If and when I do, any suggestions about how too remove? Or where it might be hiding? Once this Vermont winter finishes showing off, I will of course put the pot out again.
Suggestions welcomed...

Wellcome to NGA @treefrogphobia. Sorry I can't answer your question. I know nothing about frogs.

But I am curious. Sally — what did you decide to do with your little tree frog?
