I was coming to that conclusion as you were writing My only concern is that if it is a Black Cherry then the leaves could be poisonous (when crushed they convert to hydrogen cyanide)? Plus, I think it gets really tall and I don't want that where it has landed (I'm thinking out loud ).
Now I know what I need to do since it is smack in the front yard where I had two sugar maples removed (too close to the driveway) and I want that area for a saucer magnolia.
