I'm trying to identify the irises in my garden. They were planted before I lived here, so I'm going on just pictures and discriptions. This is the first one to bloom and I believe it may be Mavericks Game? I would like a second opinion because there are so many different varieties.

Very nice one Michele, and nice pictures. I'm sure someone will be able to help you with this. (Even though I can't) It's good to include the height of the bloom, and bloom time, (early, mid season, or late season). Also is it fragrant, and does it have purple based foliage. Those are all factors that could help ID it.

Thanks for the suggestions Tom!

The blooms are about 28" tall. They do have a fragrance but I can't think of anything to relate it to. The blooms just opened today and they are the first to open of all of my irises. Here's a few more pictures of the foliage and bloom.

Jan it looks almost identical! I think it's a much closer match than my original guess! Thank You!

Now you have to get a test plant and plant it right next to the one you have. If it blooms at the same time and the same height, and when you dissect a bloom from each and compare every part, you should be able to make a judgment about it.

Tom - thanks, I'll keep that in mind when I divide them this summer!

Here is my second iris to bloom this season. This one has me stumped, because I'm not even sure which classification it falls under. The blooms are 28" tall now but I transplanted them a couple years ago. The well-established plants have blooms that measure 40" tall.

I thought they were either Spuria or Siberian but I've never grown either myself so I wasn't sure. They sure do look like your NoID Lilli. I wish I new more of the history behind my landscaping but of course I didn't ask when we bought the house. I think a lot of my plants have been here for a long time Smiling

Here is the new bloom today. They are about 40-45" tall. There's so many yellow varieties I've got a list of about a dozen that I think it could be.

My brother in Illinois has a large amount of those same Siberians. They must have been very popular with landscapers in the Midwest. Smiling

Lilli and Michele, Shakers Prayer may be worth considering when tyring to ID your siberian.

I've had a Siberian for over 20 years without a bloom, so what do I know? Hilarious!

Does it have variegated foliage, Sherry? I would need a good reason to keep it if it never bloomed!

Thank You! Robin! But my NoID comes from my grandfather's garden and it is older than me, so can't be
Shaker's Prayer. It is tough as old shoes and spreads and blooms with no care whatsoever from me. What's not to like? Smiling

Lilli, unfortunately, no... It's in a container, that I brought here when I moved in '97... I re-potted it, last year, or the year before hoping that I'd get some bloom... but I think it just wants to be in the ground. The areas where I have room, are drier areas, but I think I may just stick it in one of those places and give it one last chance.

Mulch it with a few pine needles, if you have them, and it should do fine, Sherry ! I have a few "waif & stray" SIBs planted in very dry "situations, and they do pretty good Thumbs up .

Robin - shakers prayers does look pretty similar, I'll have to keep it in mind.

Got another new bloom today! Here's number 4 bloom measures at 32". I think Tall Bearded Iris (Iris 'Bold Entry') may be on the right track? What's everybody think?
