@cpq19tdh I have no doubt magnolialover is right about mixed up bulbs in packages meant for the general nursery/garden center market. Case in point, last fall I came across an entire crate of 'Stargazer' lilies at a very popular nursery. Six bucks per bulb as I recall. But they were not Stargazers and I told them that. Stargazers are oriental lilies and their bulbs are very different looking from non-oriental lilies. All of the bulbs looked like trumpet or orienpet lily bulbs. So of course I took on the challenge and bought one just to see if I was lucky and got some very rare expensive lily at a cheap price. I'm looking forward to seeing what shows up!
If you scroll up to blwilson1979's post from 2019, (
@blwilson1979 ) :
"I have only had one type of lilies which are stargazers. This year at least 1/2 the blooms are stark white. These same plants were very typical pink lasr year. Any actual plant scientists in the crowd that can explain this phenomenon? The ones that were typically oink where quite large and have come and gone"
The white and the pink lilies are two different cultivars. The pink lily is upfacing and the white lilies are out to down facing. This is a genetic difference. Also perhaps a slightly different bloom time for the two types of lilies.
