I have now expanded this idea into a Christmas project. If I can find some large pinecones I want to paint them red with yellow centers for a basket of "Poinsettia". And maybe add a string of white lights. And you could also do silver or gold in a black basket also with lights. Oh the possibilities are endless!!!! Once my mind gets going....lol. Thank you for the nice comments and the acorns!!

Suga, visit the Francis Marion forest, where the Long Leaf pines have enormous cones. The Clemson cones are a cute idea for a CU fan like my niece, I may have to make a basket of orange and purple cones for her.

Suga, what a wonderful project ... just beautiful!! Thanks for this great tip, perfect for any time of year; I really like your idea of painting large pine cones red and using the little white lights for a basket of poinsettias!

And here I was thinking just the other day, what I was going to do with all these pine cones in my back yard. I've been using the around the edges of pots as a tree rat deterrent.
These are the finished baskets with bows of the two colleges. Clemson Tigers and South Carolina Gamecocks I haven't done the poinsettia ones yet. I did go buy the paint and nearly fainted when the girl hit total!!! Be prepared my friends!!! Spray paint isn't cheap!

So many possibilities - red, white and blue for July 4th, orange, black and purple for Halloween, pastels for Easter, red, white and pink for Valentine's Day - the list can go on and on! Wonderful!
