I am writing as I am hoping someone might be able to direct me to a particular hybridizer . The hybridizer's name is Jacques Hamel. I would like to buy one of his daylilies but am unable to source where his is located. The daylily in question is
Ténèbres (Hamel, 2022)
height 22 inches (56 cm), bloom 4 inches (10 cm), season M, Semi-Evergreen, Tetraploid, 12 buds, 2 branches, Fuchsia with black eye and edge.. (Written on the Wind × The Band Played On)

I do not know if he is located in the USA or in Canada or possibly even in France
Sure would appreciate it if anyone can share how to reach this gentleman.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Actually that is odd.
I read something else saying a guy with his name and age died in 2003.
https://www.mesaieux.com/Necro...
From Google translate:
"At the Rimouski Regional Hospital Center, on April 11, 2003, at the age of 58 years and 6 months, died Mr. Jacques Hamel, FCA, regional director at Samson Bélair Deloitte & Touche, husband of Mrs. Danièle Rodrigue, son of Mr. Jean- Paul Hamel and Mrs. Marie-Ange Lavigne, residing at 344, Montée Des Saules, Rimouski, and formerly from Sept-Iles. The direction of the funeral has been entrusted to the Bissonnette Funeral Center of Rimouski 125, avenue St-Louis, Rimouski QC G5L 5P9 Telephone: 418-723-9294 Fax: 418-723-7395 www.centrefunerairebissonnette.com Published on 2003/04/13 in The Sun FCWM3223"

So, I am unsure who is posting pics of, and registering, these daylilies. Shrug!
Maybe a relative? Or another person with the same name and age?

Yellow pages does list a number though.....

Oh Wow , thanks Orion . I appreciate all your efforts on my behalf . I have sent off the tree mail at your suggestion . Perhaps it is another family member who is registering the plants for his wife in memory of him. Hoping to hear from someone but time will tell. Fingers crossed it was an obit notice for the gentleman who is the hybridizer .

From the AHS hybridizer list Jacques Hamel is listed as being in Granby, Quebec. Not very near Rimouski although that doesn't necessarily mean anything. He is on Facebook.

I am pretty sure I have seen this plant listed somewhere... Who is the guy in Canada that has all of the really nice toothy ones with French names? His website has the English translation...?

Anyhow! This plant reminds me of Tango Lessons, and it seems like I have seen something similar from either John Peat or Ted Petit.... I just can't remember. If you can't locate Tenebres, you might try to find Tango Lessons. That is my favorite color combo by the way! I did have The Band Played On a long time ago, and it has a similar look as well. Who Do Voodoo had the same look in orange....

Thanks to all who helped me with my hunt to find this hybridizer . I took Orion's suggestion and sent an email. It got to the gentleman in question who advised me the plant was sold out but he didn't ship to the USA anyway.

Well, I am not in the USA and mentioned my location in Canada to him. I replied asking if it were possible for him to keep me in mind for next year but was then informed that it is sold out for the next 3 years. Oh well, seems I won't be growing this plant in my gardens anytime soon unless I can find it in some other sellers gardens. ;?( I will continue to hunt for it as I am kind of like a dog with a bone about these things.

Thanks too Deryll for the suggestion of Who Do Voo Doo . I do grow that one and love it . I will definitely search out Tango Lessons ( very pretty) and The Band Played on as well .

Just a heads up--
I would advise anyone looking for this daylily on Facebook to be extra cautious. As mentioned above, this daylily is not being shipped to the US and the hybridizer is sold out.

This has not stopped scammers from cloning his profile photo and seeking out sellers via Messenger offering it for sale and a steep price. This happened to a friend of mine so I wanted to share her experience of almost falling for a scam.

If you are buying the daylily make sure it is from the REAL Jacques Hamel. If anything sounds fishy don't send money to people you don't know.

And by the way, he told me that Yenok (California) and Jeff Vitale (Michigan) were both getting Tenebres last year.

Just talked to Jeff, and he confirmed that he did indeed get Tenebres last year, so the report that this plant wasn't sold to anyone in the US is incorrect. He said that it did survive the winter outdoors in Michigan.

He may not ship mail order to the US but people cross the border with plants such as exchanges or purchases at club meetings.

Jeff told me himself that it took a long time through the mail and looked really bad when it got here. Perhaps the bad results have caused Mr Hamel to dispense with mailing things to the US since this happened last year. My point is that at least two people have gotten this plant THROUGH THE MAIL in the US last year. It is entirely possible that Yenok could be selling fans over the internet, as he has always done, so don't necessarily jump to the conclusion that plants being advertised are a scam. Some may well be legit. And I have no idea how many plants Yenok actually bought. Mr Hamel did not offer me that info when I talked to him last year. I'm totally not saying that there might possibly be some bootlegged plants floating around. I would certainly give it a go if I had an opportunity to get one! Jeff told me that he lives 200 miles north of Toledo, and I live 90 miles south of Toledo, so I won't be going up there to see it, but if it wasn't so far, I would be. Sticking tongue out

You might verify what I have said by contacting jacqueshamel58 through our tree mail. That was how I contacted him last year. Thumbs up
