I used to listen to Paul Harvey on the way to picking up my husband from work. I loved his stories (Paul's not my husband's). And yes, that's what's missing...just "talkers". I can't remember any specific stories he told, but they were all interesting human interest and I almost always came away with that "huh, didn't know that" feeling. Do you remember Erma Bombeck's household tips columns? She was a great yarn spinner in print. My mom and I used to laugh ourselves silly reading some of her stuff.
I am not "country" I am "landed gentry."

I loved Erma! She just flat out wrote what her days were. I also still will watch Carol Burnett every so often and my hubs is like why? Because sometimes you need a good laugh.

I don't know what made me think of Paul. He was a voice that was always there I guess. I haven't found or heard anyone much like him of late, not even Garrison (he's too colloquial for me). I was reading Paul's wiki and really his wife was a big part of his production and helmed the ship it read like. In the end it made for an interesting bit of the day and made me think.

I'm sure your hubs had good stories too. 😉

I really miss Paul Harvey!! He had the best voice and like you guys said, he could tell a story but in a simple way that had you enjoying it but learning at the same time. Never have heard anyone with a similar voice or way of talking.

I have never listened to Paul Harvey but I will peruse YouTube to see what I can find. Have you ever watched Jeanne Roberson? She was a humorist who had a way of telling good clean stories that would have me belly laughing.

No I have not. I will have to look her up. Thanks for something new to peruse.

I spelled her name wrong - it is Robertson not Roberson. Here is a link to one of her videos that I thought was hilarious:
