Thank you RickM, for hosting the swap: your garden is going to be even more beautiful this year!

I will be attending. Will let you know what I will bring. Shall I dare to bring chicken satay again after the disaster of last year. If I do, I will make them the day before——ignore instructions that they have to be made the same day—-

Last but not least:
Thank you for giving me a ride again Frenchy21—

“Little girl, why are you doing this? You can’t save all these starfish. You can’t begin to make a difference!” After a few moments thought, she bent down, picked up another starfish & hurled it as far as she could into the ocean. Then she looked up at the man and replied, “Well, I made a difference to that one!” Be the change you wish to see in the world. http://www.stillsthatspeak.com...

I think I will bring Lemper, Indonesian snack: seasoned shredded chicken breast (will use canned chicken breast from Aldi) sandwiched between pressed steamed sticky rice with coconut milk---wrapped in banana leaves. I hope the fresh banana leaves will be available. Will wrap them called Kodok [=frog] style--And MAYBE also some desserts if I have the time.

I have another friend coming as my guest to the swap. Her name is Marilyn and she will be driving me to the swap, she lives in Alexandria. She does not have a garden but she loves flowers. She is going to bring brownies---I may bring something else besides the Lemper, hard to choose what I want to share.

I have decided to also bring Lontong, which is pressed cooked rice to eat with kale curry, another favorite dish. I am going to cheat this time, instead of making the curry from scratch, I am going to use the ready-made curry package meant to cook goat curry from Medan (North Sumatra style, this curry has a lot of spices, different from the goat curry from Java, also different from the original cassava leaves (replaced by kale) curry recipe (from West Sumatra, the Minangkabau matrilineal people). I have never made these---I will find out if some of you will like it----or even if I like it. I like lontong, but not made this way (a quicker way), and I love this curry, but made with its intended meat: goat (some people made it with lamb here, no lambs in Indonesia, too hot), love it especially with goat off-al, some of them not sold here) but I have never used this with kale----If it is popular, both of them are easy to make, and the spices for the curry is also available in stores where Indonesian groceries are sold--at the Indonesian Market or at Hung Phat in Wheaton, unfortunately I have not found any stores in VA yet. The only thing I will add in the curry spices is kale and coconut milk and water. Very easy dish to make.

Name of dish: Kale curry with lontong (pressed rice cake) wrapped in banana leaves.

Just realized that lambs may be available in Indonesia now imported from New Zealand. Yesterday I was supposed to bring lontong wrapped in banana leaves to a friend's Eid's gathering. It was a disaster, the banana leaves tore into pieces and I could not even use them inside a sheet of the 'thick' aluminum foil. So I am going to try to use my gas stove to heat and make the leaves pliable for the lemper. If not successful the lemper is going to be wrapped in plastic wrap. And I will bring rice instead of lontong to eat the curry--Different sizes of packages of uncooked lontongs are available for sale in Maryland, but not in VA, but I much prefer those wrapped in banana leaves or ketupat (rice cooked in woven packages made of young coconut fronds) .
