hillbilly,
I like the looks of the bloom, the dark base color with the lighter watermark and the light midribs make an attractive bloom. It is just that any plant being suggested for registration I think should come with some statements about it's vigor, it's plant habit, disease resistance, etc. Branching, Bud count, height bloom size, always mean a lot when judging a plant for registration and I always love it when the hybridizer adds personal little notes about the plant, especially why they think it is worthy of registration and why they think it is unique.
But just judging by the bloom alone I think it could be a plant worthy of registration if it possesses the other qualities that would make it an outstanding daylily.

Beautiful, Boyd! Recently I have been considering High Water Mark's children, forming a hypothesis that she carries color intensifier and/or clarifier genes. The intensity of your seedling's color goes to the former. Have you seen rebloom?

I say she's intro-worthy based on her face alone, especially if you are immortalizing your favorite folk. With her pedigree, the stats are decent enough.

It is a dormant that has 8 or 9 inch blooms on a 36 inch scape. It blooms mid season here and it is well branched with with what I would guess about 15 buds per scape.

I like the flower, the color, the size, the flower form - it's really beautiful and for me it's distinctive too - but I would't buy it with 15 buds per scape. In our climate plants with this bud count flower only two weeks - this is not enough for the average small garden here.

How old is this seedling? Is there a chance for a higher bud count if you wait one or two years while giving it some extra water and fertilizer? Thinking

Would you buy it for your garden, if it wasn't your seedling?

Lovely, intense color!
How does the color hold up in the sun? Does it fade at all or does it stay about that dark & saturated all day?

Bud count is important, but the amount of scapes a plants puts out can overcome any low bud count, well at least here in my zone. Trouble is that scape density is not shown in stats and I am not sure how it could be included.

"Scape density" would be related to how fast a fan throws new fans/clumps up....also not shown in any stats. There are daylilies registered with bud counts under 10.

It's beautiful, but unfortunately for me it's a dormant. Otherwise...

I think Dave's right -- you should go ahead and register it. A good test -- will you regret it if you don't?

I agree with MinxFox. The flower is definitely beautiful and distinctive but does it hold up well in the sun and heat? I would definitely buy it if the substance is such that it is sunfast and heatfast.

It's a beautiful picture. I too would be most interested in how the color and substance holds up during the whole day. So many dark colors will slick/fade/burn or wilt as the temperature goes over 90 AND since this is a midseason, it could very well hit those temperatures during the afternoon while it's blooming...............Maryl
