Works great and always looks good.

Just reading
https://garden.org/thread/go/1...
https://garden.org/thread/go/1...

and they both got me thinking how useful mirrors can be to redirect light to dark places.

You can easily add a mirror (larger the better) to bounce light with a small loss from a bright wall with no plants to a dark wall or corner with lots.

Add more if you need more light.

You can bounce twice, I've even used them to shift light from bright rooms to dark ones.

They always make a given space feel bigger and since you'll see more plants it feels greener too.

Getting lots of thumbs for this but no posts.

Anyone else do this?

Just set up a double-bounce from a south-facing kitchen wall back to the north-facing and through a doorway to the living room.

Hoping for 45-60 minutes of some extra light for my plectranthus. Love that plant.

I've been using mirrors to lighten rooms all of my life. Plants aside, I require bright indoor living spaces. For increasing light to plants, another effective method is placing a mirror directly behind a plant located on a shelf against a wall. Not only does it bounce light onto the back of the plant, it makes it appear twice its size.

Yes. Great idea, thank you.

The trick is finding really cool mirrors.

I love a 2'x3' with a 2.5" wooden frame inlaid with abalone shell I found 15 years ago at Target of all places.

I have a big round mirror that I've usually used for this, though some houses didn't have a spot where it could help this way. At this place, it's diagonally in a SE corner, next to a S window, so in the afternoon it bounces beams back into the room. The room is arranged around that. All of my rooms are arranged so plants can use the available light from the windows. If there's anything in front of a window, it's a plant stand or shelf. Whatever space is left is where other furniture can go.

If one was buying mirrors specifically for this, the freestanding kind that tilt would probably be the most useful, but would require some floor space.

The whole tilt thing escaped me, that's an awesome idea.

; ) I think so because the angle is slightly different every day - until solstice when it starts to go back the other way. That's the best part about having to bring plants inside temporarily, for those who do that. For those months, the sun is the most able to shine sideways into E, S, W windows.

Mirror, mirror, on the wall.
Who's the greenest plant of all?

...saw this discussion again & that popped into my head.

With what seems like no light with damn daylight savings, I added a few more.

Already helped prompt some new chlorophytum babies.
