Thread OP

Hi!! My epiphyllum oxypetalum is turning translucent and these brown spots start to appear. It's about 5 ft from a south facing window in Ontario, Canada. Is it root rot? The plant is one year old and the soil is pretty dense.

Hello , I,m your latest newbie to the group Rolling my eyes. I have a greenhouse full of Epies ! I love them . I just noticed your question jz7297 and I think you simply may have splashed the phylloclades / leaves whilst you were watering it and then the sun has shone through the drops of water and scorched them . The rest of the plant looks o.k. the compost looks quite damp but not too wet . Perhaps it is standing in too sunny a spot ..move into a more shady place . Let it dry out a little before you water it again . Worth saving it , Epiphyllum oxypetalum is a beautiful one !

I would say overwatering is the issue. My E. oxypetalum is happy in a half orchid bark mix and a coco coir hanging basket with afternoon sun. I water it maybe once a week and the reaching branches get rained on regularly with no issues from scorching.
I have found that coffee, tea, and rose can all agree on one thing... water everyday.

Nice to see an Epi grower here in England.
Cornwall is a very nice county...well it was when I was there about 55 yrs ago!
Re: E.Oxypetalum. The mix needs attention. 'Dense' is not good for Epis. Free draining is essential.

Hi All, similar issue for myself! What would be the best move? To cut off and try propagate or leave as is??? Thank you

The damage shouldn't spread so removing it is purely an aesthetic choice.
