I think its stinging nettle. Did you get 'stung' touching it?

Potentilla has clusters of 3 leaves.

I agree with Daisyl, pretty sure this is stinging nettle, Urtica dioica. The habitat is right. Often grows in woods in low moist areas.

And yes, usually leaves its "stinging" hairs embedded in tender skin, causing severe itchiness and rash in sensitive people. I know from personal experience, by jumping off a rock into a patch while wearing shorts when I was innocent of its identity. I never forgot!

I wonder if it might be False nettle, which doesn't sting.? Smiling

Hi frostweed, I haven't met False Nettle that I know of, so I have to pass on that possibility. Thanks for suggesting it!
