I'm absent more than I'm present, but I'm trying to catch up.
Here are my two bits:

Secret Santa is posted on GardenWeb, I mean HOUZZ, if anyone is interested.

And, one of our garden pals has offered to host Bingo. Awesome!

Good stuff.

I'd like to participate in this year's GW Santa seed swap, but I cannot find the garden web forums.

So, after I key in the address of www.houzz.com , how can I find those old forums?

Here is a link to the forum, Karen. Be sure to bookmark it. Houzz has made navigation of the garden forums almost impossible.

@Danita - thank you!

darnit, but when I tried to find the round robin forum (or any GW forum), following is sad report:
#1 - click on www.houzz.com
#2 - click on Get Ideas (used to obtain GW forums, but not now)
#3 - click on the Garden(ing?) option
Result - NO gardenweb forums - just decorate your *!* living room

Is there a way to find that GW list of garden forums, from which we could choose which one to read?

On the Secret Santa - I appreciate poisondartfrog's bringing it up, and look forward to keeping it going this year, even on a much tinier scale.

Wishing everyone rays of positive light in the coming days,

karen

Seriously, the only reason that I know where to find the forums is because I bookmarked pages. I'm generally good at navigating websites so I think that Houzz just made a total mess of Gardenweb. So sad, it used to be such a great site. Sad

With these links, you can see a list of garden forums in the left column under "featured topics". The key is to use the old gardenweb.com address rather than houzz.com.

@poisondartfrog, I talked with Maggie a few months back. She was doing okay.

I don't know if she's interested in a swap again. I'll message her through Facebook and ask.

Do you think you could post a link to secret πŸŽ…. I can't get there.

Her last post that I saw here was in September, I think. I'm a little worried about how the fires affected her.

Try this address for Secret Santa: https://www.houzz.com/discussi...

Edited to add: I think tonight is the end of sign ups for SS.

Thank you folks for your concern. Survived fire season with no horrid fires (some small) in my county, a blessing this year. Health ok too but I am one of the folks staying close to home and following guidelines when I venture out.

Happy Thanksgiving to All!!

Was planning to cut back on the variety of things I grow so debating about swaps this year. Didn't collect as much seed either, mostly from the items I offered in the last swap.

Just fyi - Stokes Seed has changed (and I'm not happy) - it is where I got F1 seed in specific colors for certain things I like to repeat grow. They're dropping flowers and moving to commercial only - large packets for veggie's, but F1 flowers were what I bought from them (Floral showers snapdragon in white, Dreams white petunia) but both in protected places are blooming so I may get on trying to get some cuttings going in the garage.

I'd signed up for GeoSeed, but they'd never sent me sale notices, so missed out on those.

Checking out Secret Santa now - ah, see I missed the sign up date (22nd), oh well.
Remember, it is dangerous to the environment and ILLEGAL in MANY states (CA is one) to mail plants/bulbs/cuttings in. Let’s all practice Do No Harm while we walk this earth and find other ways to connect to one another through gardening.

I just realized an error I made when adding in Echinacea Green twister seeds. I listed them as green envy. I'm sure this was a fat finger mistake.πŸ˜‚

I saw 3 people had them checked off so I wanted to post the correction.

I was never part of the GardenWeb/HOUZZ group(s), so the swaps there are kind of mysterious to me. Confused I think I'd be interested in participating in the Secret Santa/card swap, but I always seem to find out about it after the deadline to participate has passed (completely my fault). Those swaps, as I've observed them, seem very complicated and daunting. Blinking Could we try something similar here - next year, of course - in a more familiar setting?

I'm not sure how to adapt that to the seed swap system here, Ginger. Maybe we could do it in the swap forums? I think it would work here, though, and participation would be pretty high, I bet.

We have over 1700 separate listings in our catalog now, and the range of plant types from vegetables to ornamentals is impressive, and there are a lot of us who have not started to list yet.

Does anyone know which grade of Vermiculite is best for Jonna's (Sudenius) method of sowing in pure Vermiculite within a sealed container?

Thanks! Green Grin!

@danita.

I started some seeds indoors and winter sowed some seeds using this method last winter. It worked great!

I used two kinds and both worked just as well.

I started triple yellow datura seeds indoors using this, they germinated in just a couple of days!

I think Jonna's site might be down again, but here's a thread that chelle made that might get you started:

Thanks! I do recall this, but haven't tried it yet. Need the vermiculite. Do you think peat moss might work just as well?

I've mixed coarse vermiculite with sifted peat moss with good results.
