Another month went by and here we are August 1.
My little Bc Tiny Kiss is still a happy camper and blooms very nicely in the cage.

My old Mediocalcar decoratum has some dieback and also a few cute blooms

And the Maxillaria tenuifolia blooms a bit

I got the first 200 orchids moved into the equipment shed. Still have 3-4 doz. hanging ones to move. De-leafing all my plumeria and as I do the ones in pots, I'll lay them on their sides. There are some 300 of these to do and I've done about 50 so far. I had to come inside for some AC and ice water. The outlying feeder bands of the hurricane are starting to move in and with that the wind has picked up. Not terrible in the shade but everything I'm doing now is in full sun and the wind doesn't do much good. By my calculation, I have about 4 hr. before we start getting the heavy squalls with rain and tropical wind gusts. The real stuff will hit when the sun begins to go down.

Doing my best, Ursula. I forgot how long it takes to de-leaf 300 plumeria, cutting off 1000's of leaves, mostly one at a time.

I was wondering why you do that? Can you not just lay them down and clean up afterwards the broken leaves. Or is that a room - issue, you can fit more bare plants into the same space?

I have several dozen plumeria in the ground, Ursula, ranging from 3' tall up to 8' tall. Those in pots can be laid down, but still, removing the leaves will lessen the wind-drag on the plants. Other than orchids and seedlings, nothing is coming inside. And those are all in the equipment shed.

My hurricane prep included having some extra bread in the freezer. I was toting plants while the dough was rising and baking.

Ken and Alice, I hope the storm is not so bad, when I looked earlier, it looked to be back down to a TS. But I imagine a short bit over open warm water and it's back where it started. Alice, I can almost smell that bread over here, ...it's crying out for some melting butter! YUM!

Looks like the wind will be in the 30 to 50 mph range, that is doable. Gusts to 75 are OK too, it is not unusual here. However, we have had so much rain here and more precipitation is what I am dreading, No flooding at this house but everything is already soggy and fungal disease will be next.

Lindsey, the Tiny Kiss came from Suwada, a Japanese Vendor who came every so often to Silva Orchids. Perhaps Silva might have one?

I am looking at Isaias' path, they have it now mapped with New York / us pretty much center as it moves North. My cage is ok, but I may have to organize the deck.

Alice and Ursula, so far the (now) tropical storm has been a "nothing burger". Breezy and light to moderate rain when a band comes through, but it's always brief. We have far more rain and wind with a typical thunderstorm than I've seen so far. Heck, I've got a dozen plumeria in bloom, and none of the inflo. have even been blown off.

That is good news!!

Ken. Now you have the chore of gluing back all those plumeria leave you took off . . . and of course re- postiioning the orchids.

Lindsey, wonderful pictures of your Chief. Mine always has a wonderful sort of 'spice cake' scent but it takes the blooms a day or two to get really fragrant. When my plant was big and lusty with lots of flowers open, the scent used to attract the raccoons from far and wide.

The good side of this, Elaine, though there was almost no rust on any of the plants, whatever rust was present is now trashed. I filled up three contractor's garbage bags with leaves.

Attracting Raccoons? I would never have guessed!

All my large heavy containers are on dollies and I rolled them into an alcove and pushed the deck furniture back against the house, that is pretty much it. I only have a few orchids and they were easy to bring inside. The rain scares me more than the wind. Good thing was I found a spike on a Silk Ball I was ready to toss. I also found some buds on the big Stephanotis, I thought that was finished for this year.

Attract raccoons?! I don't think I have heard of that before. Well you always learn something new.

At least we know that the "little masked bugger" has good taste if he is checking out Elaine's place!!!

I just discovered my Bulbophyllum frostii blooming in the cage! Aka Dutch Slippers.
