Hello everyone,
I just purchased 'ebb tide' today from local nursery. I would like to know if it's a floriferous bush like Julia Child. In my garden she's an excellent repeat bloomer and is extremely healthy. I plan to put 'ebb tide' in a pot because I had Twilight Zone in the ground in a very sunny location and TZ has not been performing; blooms unfurl very quickly in the sun and fry in the heat and sun also showed VERY little growth even though it's been 3.5 years. TZ was 3' from Julia Child. So, base on my experience with TZ I decided to pot ET. I welcome any feedback and info on ET. Thank you everyone for reading. It doesn't matter whether there was a previous thread on Ebb Tide. You can always start a new one. I have Ebb Tide and Julia Child, and although Ebb Tide is a repeat bloomer, it is nowhere near as floriferous as Julia Child. It also hasn't been particularly vigorous in my garden. It's a great color and the bloom has a beautiful shape, but it doesn't win prizes for anything else.

Thanks zuzu for your reply. I am going to return ET and exchange it for Violet'a Pride. Just don't want to set myself up for a disappointment.

One problem is that there are so few roses in the colour range of Ebb Tide/Purple Eden. Rose Barni and the rose nursery connected with the Fineschi rose garden both offer ET,and have done so for years, so I don't think it can be that bad of a rose! plus, it gets a lot of good votes on HMF. On the Houzz forum, there is a lady who has posted photos of her totally magnificent ET,covered with flowers. However, zuzu is not the only person who doesn't think much of ET. I myself did get a very vigorous-looking potted one at a local garden center,and now, in it's second year in a pot, it is beginning to grow ,and looks promising,so I guess I'm hoping that there are some better clones of this rose in circulation and that I may have found one.We will see. I hope to plant it out in the garden in autumn.

Thanks for your input. I totally agree with you about ET's color. It's the color that drew me to the rose. I also have TZ and have just potted her bc she was getting fried in the heat where she was at in the garden. Let me know how she does from time to time. I still have a few spots left in the garden so I may just get her again in the future. Do you move ET's pot around? Does your ET get all day sun or some shade?
Is it ok for roses to get sun on bush only? Or does the entire bush need to be in full sun? TZ sits where she'd get morning sun. Then in shade as the sun moves then she'd get some sun again. Then about 5 PM she'd get some sun but, only up top and none so ever at the bottom (root area). She's in a pot so I can move her. I'd appreciate any input. Thanks for stopping by.

Morning sun is great for roses! I see you're in a zone 10, so that means it's probably very hot and sunny where you are-in such conditions roses actually do prefer afternoon shade. Here at my house,the terrace gets morning sun and afternoon shade, which is perfect, but out at my garden it's a different story: the land there faces south-west, on a sharp slope, so the afternoon sun is absolutely brutal. So when I plant ET out there, I'd best look for a spot with some shade,in order to preserve the colour and try to avoid too much "frying" . Alas, that is another fragility that tends to go hand in hand with that wonderful dark colour: tendency to fry.So maybe in the future, if you decide to plant TZ or ET out in your garden, it might be wise to hunt for a spot with only morning sun . Roses prefer to have their roots nice and cool, so no sun in that area is no problem.
