Everything to do with daylilies here is a month behind due to heat. Two weeks ago I was able to start moving things, lining out, and redoing the hybridizing area. Had to move everything in a hurry to a fenced in area last year due to deer, now have it reorganized where I can fine things.
New 2020s lined out

I know looking at the photos now, it is hard for us to envision the time and work that has to go into a project like that. Getting organized and getting protection from the deer and other critters takes an investment in time, effort and money. But, it certainly looks like you have achieved a lot, organization can make the entire process each year so much more efficient and enjoyable.
It all looks great!

Just me so its slow but sure.
This is what caused all work. There is 6 or 8 of them, all sizes, that have made this and the surrounding acreage their home due to new home developments.

Fred. Looks like you could use a puma. Smiling

I wish I had a quarter of your organization. How old are your plants in the first picture? And how far apart have you planted them at that age? It looks wonderful, Fred.

Paul-I have stopped doing Tets, will release my last one in the spring. This was not a sudden decision, I started reducing my Tet hybridizing about three years ago. I had to make some hard choices because I am not getting any younger.
Tim- The plants are about 12" apart and all are double and triple fans, I do not sell single fans. Will start shipping these in the spring.

Will start lining out selected dip seedlings in this new bed tomorrow.

Fred,
I understand that the choice to drop tets was based on the fact that doing both was just too much to handle and you had to cut back.
What were the advantages of continuing doing dips over continuing with tets, and what did you see as the disadvantages when making you choice? Was it just the flip of a coin because you had to cut back on something?

Beautiful layout Fred. Your gardens are a picture of beauty (and that's without the blooms)!!!

Looks like that little buck is trying to formulate a "plan". Hope he goes back home and tells all his friends that the free lunch plan is OVER in this area.

Everything looks great, Fred! What kind of bed containers are you using for the hybridizing area? I hope your fence fends off the deer. They can be so destructive!

Larry- It wasn't just a flip of the coin, I started with dips back in the 90s and have always liked what I have accomplished with dips more than my tets.

Sue- I think the deer are here to stay in the area, they really have no place to go.

Debra- Those are fiberglass containers used for raising small fish to be released when big enough. They were replaced with more modern containers.

I can't manage fencing for several reasons, but I do have a big furry collie-golden ? mix who doesn't stay out enough to do the job for me, but his excess coat does help a lot. I collect it and tuck it in around the plants and it has cut back the damage by maybe 90%. When he doesn't provide enough I stop by the groomers and collect a bag and try to get the stinkyer stuff that was not shampooed first. Empty my vacuum canister near the most visited areas. Gini Maybe plant some nice lettuce between the plants?
