My friend got this plant recently and she was wondering what it is. Can anyone ID this plant?

It's a Tillandsia, common name Air Plant. Don't plant it in soil!

Thank you very much!! So that makes it a bromeliad?
What would she plant it in? Wood chips maybe? Or would it just be in a container loose?

Hey thanks for the 'corn! I'm not much of an expert on Tillandsias but I did kill a couple of them years ago. My daughter-in-law gave me a couple this past Christmas and they are still alive. I have them resting in a nest of Spanish Moss (also a Tillandsia) which in turn is in a carved out depression in wood.

They do take some special care and I think you will get the most help in the Tillandsia thread in the Bromeliad Forum, located here:
