I'm sitting here bored awaiting the slowest hurricane in history.

While I was protecting my bromeliads I had found my Wallisia cyanea Pink Quill is flowering. This is four plants now with the original mom (still in the middle of these offsets) purchased in bloom Oct. 2015. It took over 3 1/2 years to start seeing new flowers, as you can see all four offsets are showing inflorescence now, the two with the first flowers. This was originally Tillandsia Pink Quill, but has been re-classified.

I am amazed with my Neoregelia 'Shocking Pink'.
The mother plant (left in photo) produced a pup (right in photo) before it has flowered. I removed the lone pup a few months ago and it has quickly grown.

Stay safe. I used to live on Galveston Island and just across the causeway in TX City for 30+ years and know exactly what those long waits are like. The prepping is exhausting.

Scott, 'Shocking Pink' certainly is an appropriate name for that one. Lovey dubby

Scott, that Shocking Pink sure must be a nice stand out in the garden. Thumbs up

I had put all my hanging plants down to the ground, or under the pavilions for protection from the hurricane, so I took advantage of the nice cool breezy day yesterday and did some brome cleaning to my hanging baskets before putting them all back. So while they were down I snapped some overhead pics of them.

This is my Neoregelia Donger basket, started in March of 2016, about five or six plants at that time. Nice spread, the bricks it is on are 12 inches wide, still in the original orchid basket.
It isn't as red now because it hangs under a big Crape Myrtle tree, but in winter when the tree is bare it gets really red. Notice the albino offset coming out, this is the second albino offset it has given me.

Love seeing the Broms, especially the small Neoregelia. I live in the desert so all of mine are indoors. I have a few in pots as houseplants and several in my vivariums. I'm looking to add some more soon.

At our last Bromeliad Society meeting they were talking about the mini bromeliads and how well they can grow indoors. Always need some squirts of water for humidity, and bright light, a grow light will work very well if you don't have bright window for them. Chester Skotak has many mini bromeliads.

This is my Neo. Zoe in Sept. 2016 when I first bought it.

This same basket of Neo. Zoe, this Sept. 4, 2019, had it down for hurricane. You can almost tell the side that faces the sun, more red. I've even cut some plants off for gifts and other projects. If you ever see this one, snatch it up. Very prolific and gets deep red in the winter and more sun. In the summer the trees it hangs from shade it.

Great baskets Sherri. Getting started on mine now. The Shocking Pink's are a great look Scott.

Hi Y'all, I haven't had pictures to post in a month. As usual, all of your plants are picture perfect! I stopped in local plant shop. Beautiful broms in store. Didn't have camera. Then I saw this plant carried into office. I asked about it. They had couple of plants for $5 each. Beautiful bloom, forlorn foliage. Store had just received them. They are probably dry. Will trimming and watering help it recover? Is it dying since it
bloomed. Hope I can get pup.

Tag says propagating prohibited..
That doesn't include pup does it?

This is Aechmea Del Mar, according to the tag!

Thanks for tips, helpful hints!

TT your plant name is patented and the grower owns the breeder rights. No one else can legally sell any named pups without paying royalties to the breeder but if no money changes hands you are OK.

Good growing Scott. Thumbs up

TT, Good find! Your new A. 'Del Mar' will be fine and the flowering has some time to go still. You can trim the brown off the leaves for a tidy look as flowering continues.
Del Mar is a patented Bromeliad. Do not worry with the production of pups for your continued enjoyment of the plant in the future years.

Alice and Scott thanks for info. I hope I will have pics of pups to post
You all post pretty photos and great info. These plants were pushed to back of the store. So I am glad she carried it past me to the office. She said she didn't know what was wrong with plant. I told her I was part of a Bromeliad bunch and y'all will help me give it TLC! Thanks!

@hiyall That is a very good deal you found. Probably a Bullis bromeliad, they do patent them, but you can enjoy the pups for a long time coming. I see those for sale at my local nursery for over $30. when in bloom. Thumbs up Thumbs up

Neo. Kautskyi blooming, flowers are white with little purple streaks, a bit different. Lovey dubby
