I grow this plant @ MI landscape. It will be year 3 this year I think. I'll check status next week; so far....so good

I love this plant, it's foliage is so GREEN, it's one of those dark blue-green foliage plants that arent quite as common to find. The scapes are solid and thick.

The blooms are a gorgeous, deep true red with thick petals and a velvety texture. While mine didn't send up tons and tons of buds in past years, it was always a reliable bloomer with beautiful blooms. Well worth the space in the garden.

It doesnt multiply like crazy, but it does multiply. And it handles the heat of the intense summer sun very well without fading.

1st scape spotted today.

Bloomed 23 jul 2019 in MI. 4 way branching with 32 buds on 28" primary scape (below)

Some flower damage on today's bloom. Not fully open bloom @ 5" so 5.5" registered size is good.

This is how a good blossom on Funny Valentine should look.

I received this plant by accident from G Wild in 2020. It was supposed to be King of Hearts ( not the only mistake they made in that order!).

However, it's a really pretty red. I like the form and the ruffles, it stands up to heat and light. Although the scape was a little short ( first year to bloom), it was pretty prolific sending up 16 flowers, beginning July 17 to August 12. This is a very nice plant that extends into the late season, always a welcome trait. Looking forward to seeing how it does next year.

A good year for Funny Valentine. Bloom went from July 13-25 with 10 blooms, then an unexpected rebloom from August 31 to September 18 with 10 more blooms. This was nice as hardly anything else had flowers by then.

bud count down this year but there are now 7 scapes & the deer have passed it by so far

2023 update…a great year for FV, it bloomed from July 19 to September 10 with only a short break from August 24 to September 3rd. I counted at least 55 blooms this year as it is clumping up.
