A self watering pot should be fine for your Boston fern. If you decide to use a different pot, simply choose one that's bowl shaped - one that is short but wide - and with lots of drainage holes in the bottom. One that's 2-3 inches deeper and wider than the current pot should give your transplanted fern adequate room for root growth. Enjoy your Boston fern and your repotting project.
