I'm not convinced that this red-leafed cultivar of
Hedgehog Agave (Agave stricta) actually merits its own database listing, as green-leafed plants may also turn red in the sun. The red-leafed form is almost certainly not clonal and represents a more or less normal phenotype for many plants of this species. The red color may be stress related and reversible to green when that stress is relieved.
