I occasionally see some of this Japanese species planted in landscapes mostly in well-to-do neighborhoods in southeast Pennsylvania. I've only seen it as a spreading shrub, usually about 3 to 5 feet high and a little wider, though I've also seen a few mature plants that are low ones about 1 to 2 feet high and about 3 or 4 feet wide. Some are sold at many larger conventional nurseries. It looks so much like a regular yew shrub, though it is not fed upon by deer in the winter like what happens to yews where deer will wander. It is slow growing and tends to be sort of expensive to buy. I've never seen the plum-like seed structures. Being dioecious, it would have to have both male and female plants together, but the "fruit" is not ornamental. This species often grows a as a small tree in Japan.
