Faircloth is a type 2 pollinator requiring a type 1 pollinator for nut production.
In trials at the University of Georgia, Faircloth has remained scab free from 2006 through 2013. Since 2009 Faircloth has produced a similar yield as Desirable and the yields have remained consistent since. The quality of the nut is good. The problem with Faircloth is that the kernel is so tightly packed into the shell that all of it cannot be extracted. This is especially a problem with mechanical shelling machines. The reported percent of the kernel is lower than it actually is because of the inability to remove all of the kernel from the shell. If it were not for this problem, Faircloth would be a very promising cultivar.
Recommended pollinators for Faircloth are Desirable, Byrd, Caddo, Amling, and Pawnee.
The U of Georgia discontinued testing of Faircloth in 2013 due to the shelling difficulties.
