Treadwell is a new pecan cultivar that was released by Dr. Darrell Sparks, Dept. of Horticulture, University of Georgia at Athens, Georgia. He released it in 2012. The University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences planted Treadwell in their replicated test in 2009. It bore its first crop for them in 2013.
To date, Treadwell has produced a very large nut of excellent quality. Average nuts per pound is 52 and average kernel is 60%, which is major. The kernel is very bright and attractive. A full season of fungicide spray will be required for Treadwell. It has not proved to yield as prolifically as Cunard and Byrd, but it still yields enough so that it will require crop thinning in heavy crop years.
