Byrd is a Type 1 pollinator, which requires a Type 2 pollinator for nut production.
Byrd produces a very large nut, averaging 46 nuts per pound. It has a whopping average 62% kernel, which is outstanding! With the size of nut and kernel count, Byrd should bring a very high price. An early harvest date of about October 1st also adds to the potential profits from this nut. There's always a downside isn't there? Here it is.....
Byrd is a cross between Pawnee and Desirable, both of which are highly scab susceptible, making an entire season fungicide spray a requirement. For this reason, it is conditionally recommended for Alabama and Georgia.
