Lakota is a Type 2 pollinator and requires a Type 1 pollinator for nut production.
This is a smaller-sized nut, averaging 67 nuts per pound. Averages 57% kernel, which is a very nice kernel fill ratio.
Lakota produces very high-quality nuts with attractive kernels. This cultivar has excellent scab resistance and the tree itself has amazing vigor. The nut yields on Lakota are so great that it requires crop thinning to ensure you are maintaining quality and also to reduce alternate bearing production. Nut harvest is early, around October 3rd.
Evaluation of older trees of Lakota has not been done in the Southeast, so recommendation is chancy.
